The Cozy Guide to Candle Care: Burn Better, Live Brighter

There’s nothing quite like lighting a candle at the end of a long day—soft flickering light, a calming scent in the air, and that instant ahhh moment. But if you’ve ever lit a candle and watched it burn unevenly, struggled to keep the flame going, or wondered why it suddenly tunneled (ugh!), this one’s for you.

Let’s talk cozy candle care—because your Spark & Stone Co. candles deserve to burn beautifully from start to finish.

Why Soy Wax is a Whole Vibe

First up, let’s talk wax. We only use natural soy wax in our candles, and here’s why that matters:

  • Cleaner burns: Soy wax burns cleaner than paraffin, meaning no toxins, soot, or headaches in your space.

  • Longer life: It burns slower, so you get more hours of glow for your money.

  • Eco-friendly choice: Soy is a renewable resource and biodegradable, making it a gentler choice for the earth.

Your home stays fresher, and your candle burns like a dream. Win-win.

The Magic of Wooden Wicks

Now, let’s talk about that cozy crackling sound. If you’ve ever been enchanted by the soft whisper of a fire, you’ll love our wooden wicks.

  • They give you a calm, fireplace vibe in candle form.

  • Our wooden wicks are all-natural.

  • They create a wider melt pool, which means a stronger, more even scent throw.

Pro tip: Trim your wooden wick to about 1/8” before every burn. Just pinch off the blackened tip before relighting—it’ll help the flame stay steady and strong.

Burn Baby Burn… the Right Way

Yes, there's a right way to burn your candle—and it makes a huge difference.

1. The first burn sets the stage. Always let your candle burn until the entire top layer is melted—usually 2-4 hours. This helps prevent tunneling (that sad hole in the middle).

2. Don’t overdo it. Burning longer than 5 hours at a time can cause the wick to "mushroom" or the wax to overheat. Cozy in moderation, friends.

3. Center the wick. After each burn, gently nudge the wick back to the center if needed. A centered wick = even burn. This does not happen often with our wood wicks but is possible.

4. Keep it clean. Keep your candle free of dust, wick debris, or matches. A clean candle is a happy candle.

Why Candle Care is Self-Care

Taking a few minutes to tend to your candle might feel small—but it’s an act of intention. A well-cared-for candle gives more in return: a cleaner burn, longer life, better scent, and a peaceful glow.

And let’s be honest… there’s something kind of special about lighting a candle that’s been well-loved.

So next time you strike that match, know that you're not just lighting wax and wick—you’re creating a moment, setting a tone, and inviting intention into your space.

🌿 A Note About Natural Ingredients & Wood Wicks

At Spark & Stone Co., we handcraft every candle with all-natural soy wax, wooden wicks, and clean, non-toxic ingredients—because what goes into your home matters.

But here’s the thing about working with nature: sometimes, it can be a little unpredictable.

On rare occasions, a candle may not burn properly. This can happen for a few reasons:

  • Wooden wicks are a bit finicky by nature (kind of like the sourdough of the candle world).

  • Variations in air flow, wick positioning, or even a slight inconsistency in the wax (because we never use chemical additives) can affect the flame.

We do our best to prevent these issues, but if your candle just isn’t cooperating—we want to make it right.

Please don’t hesitate to contact our customer support team. We're here to help, and we’ll gladly replace your candle or offer a solution that leaves you feeling just as cozy as intended.

Your peace of mind matters to us, and we truly appreciate your trust in our clean-crafted creations.
